About Alana Kaplan

I am a Registered Social Worker in Manitoba and Ontario, with over a decade of experience providing individual and family therapy. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Resolution Studies from the University of Winnipeg (2011) and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto (2014).

My approach is collaborative, gentle, and grounded in a strengths-based, trauma-informed systems perspective. I believe people are shaped by their relationships, environments, and life experiences. In therapy, I aim to offer a space that feels safe, respectful, and steady, where clients can move at their own pace and feel supported in being fully themselves.

I have training in Solution-Focused Therapy, Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (skills training), Exposure Response Prevention, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy for Youth (EFT-Y). I draw from these approaches thoughtfully, adapting our work to what feels most helpful for each individual or family.

Grief work is a meaningful focus of my practice. I support people living with many forms of loss, including the death of a loved one, anticipatory grief, complicated grief, and losses connected to health, relationships, or life transitions. I view grief as a natural response to love and change. Rather than trying to fix it, we work to gently understand it, make space for it, and find ways to carry it with care.

I am also a Certified Yoga Teacher, with training completed in Spring 2017. I value the mind-body connection and the ways stress, trauma, anxiety, and grief can be held in the body. When appropriate, I incorporate grounding and body-based awareness to support regulation, compassion, and healing.
